Health status of workers exposed to phthalate plasticizers in the manufacture of artificial leather and films based on PVC resins.

چکیده
The industry under consideration uses chiefly the phthalate plasticizers: predominantly dibutyl phthalate (DBP) and higher alkyl phthalates (DAP-789); periodically dioctyl phthalate (DOP), diisooctyl phthalate (DIOP), and benzyl butyl phthalate (BBP). Some formulations contain small amounts of one of the sebacates (dibutyl sebacate, DBS, or dioctyl sebacate, DOS) or adipates (dibutyl adipate, DBA, or dioctyl adipate, DOA). Tricresyl phosphate (TCP) was a component of the incombustible materials produced in 10-20% of machines assigned to various workers. The literature data on the toxicity of phthalates are sparse and contradictory (1-9). In order to clarify the question of the possibility that chronic occupational intoxication could arise under manufacturing conditions and to ascertain the role of phthalate plasticizers in this connection, we studied 147 persons (87 women and 60 men), the majority of them (75%) not more than 40 years old. The duration of occupational contact with the plasticizers was 1/2-5

Phthalates are materials with a wide spectrum of industrial applications. High molecular weight phthalates are primarily used as plasticizers in the manufacture of flexible vinyl. Low molecular weight phthalates are used in personal-care products, as solvents for cellulose acetate, and in making lacquers, varnishes, and coatings [1]. A quarter of the plasticizers produced are made of di-(2-ethy...
متن کاملExtraction, localization, and metabolism of di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate from PVC plastic medical devices.
The results of our studies on the extraction and disposition of three plasticizing substances which are extracted from poly(vinyl chloride) medical devices will be reported. The plasticizers are di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP), di-2-ethylhexyl adipate (DEHA), and butylglycolyl butyl phthalate (BGBP). DEHP extraction will be described in greater detail, and the two other plasticizers, DEHA and ...

Phthalates are widely used as plasticizers to make polymers more flexible in industrial and household products. However, lower molecular weight ortho-phthalate plasticizers have serious health effects and are restricted or banned in many countries for use in children’s products. In addition, several government agencies restrict or are investigating restricting ortho-phthalates (ortho-dialkyl ph...
متن کاملPhthalates, non-phthalate plasticizers and bisphenols in Swedish preschool dust in relation to children's exposure.
Children are exposed to a wide range of chemicals in their everyday environments, including the preschool. In this study, we evaluated the levels of phthalates, non-phthalate plasticizers and bisphenols in dust from 100 Swedish preschools and identified important exposure factors in the indoor environment. In addition, children's total exposure to these chemicals was determined by urine analysi...

poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) plasticized with EDHadEven thoug ther reports had implied that certain formulations of PVC medical tubings (2,3) and containers would, in fact, release plasticizers as well as additives to solutions, little concern had been expressed as to the possible health consequences to humans from leaching of these agents. Since Jaeger and Rubin's publication, however, considera...
